Abstract
ECM is a complicated non-traditional machining process. It can be utilized for machining most of conductive metallic material regardless of its hardness. In ECM process, along with the metal removal reaction, gas is also generated from the surface of workpiece, which consumes part of machining charges unwillingly and reduces the current efficiency of ECM. In the previous researches, the variety of the generated gas has been analyzed when different electrolytes were utilized under different current densities. However, the relationship between generated gas and pulse duration has not been elucidated so far. As a result, to investigate how gas generation influences the current efficiency, the generated gas under different pulse durations during ECM process was analyzed using gas chromatography.
