The radioprotective effects of sodium tungstate on gamma-ray (9.8 Gy) induced decreases in survival rate, and hematocrit value in male and female mice were examined. Daily ingestion of 0.02% sodium tungstate solution (33-36 mg/kg body weight/day) as drinking water from 7 days before and up to 60 days after irradiation significantly mitigated the decrease in hematocrit value, especially at 21 days after irradiation. The increase in survival rate was observed in male and female mice administered sodium tungstate solution. As for its radioprotective effects, no significant sex differences were observed.
