Although domestic production in the Japanese textile industry shrank considerably, especially in the 1990s, it has remained stable since the 2000s. Government guidelines on the textile industry have turned it in a positive direction by promoting the industry’s globalization through a division of labor in the Asian region. Some companies have a sufficient competitive edge to expand globally.
In this business environment, there are disparities among companies. The industry analysis in this paper highlights areas for future research, including management strategy and resources ; diversification into non-textile businesses ; the structure of competition.
