Venous reconstruction has not generally been considered preferable to arterial reconstruction.
Recently, however, the EPTFE graft has shown remarkable progress and improvements for use in venous reconstruction.
We report our experience with a patient who had deep vein occlusion compressed by a tumor of the iliac region. A 69 year old male patient was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaints of swelling and the dull pain in the right lower extremity. Phlebography of the right iliac region showed severe stenosis caused by compression and infiltration by the tumor, and a femoro-saphenous crossover bypass with a flexible PTFE spiral-supported EPTFE graft was carried out. Graft patency was proved by phlebography six months postoperatively.
