Abstract

A case of intussusception caused by anisakiasis of the sigmoid colon was experienced.
A 66-year-old man complained of colic pain of the lower abdomen two or three hours after taking salted cuttle. Colonoscopic examination, after successful reduction of the intussusception by Gastrographin enema, revealed elevated lesions covered with reddish swollen mucosa and a longitudinal ulcer 2cm in size in the sigmoid colon. Anisakis Larva was found in the mucosa near those lesions and was successfully exticipated by biopsy manner. The patient recovered from abdominal pain soon and was discharged from the hospital on the 3rd hospital day. No abnormality was found at colonoscopic examination performed 3 weeks later.
It is important to ask the detail of patients about episode of meal in case of intussusception. Furthurmore colonoscopic examination will give us useful information for deciding how the patient should be treated.
