Abstract

Ten cases of thyroid carcinoma in juveniles were experienced at the hospital in a recent 22-year period. These cases represented 1.6% of all 610 cases of thyroid malignant tumor operated on at the department.
The age of the patients ranged from 9 to 19 years, and nine cases were female, except one case in a 9-year-old boy. Pathologically there were two cases of follicular carcinoma and eight cases of papillary carcinoma. Eight patients had a clinical carcinoma over the T2 stage, and two had an incidental carcinoma. Lymph node metastasis was observed in four cases, including N1a in two cases, N1b in two cases, and N0 in another six cases. One patient died of fluminent hepatitis, but nine patients are alive.
