A successfully managed case of ruptured aneruysm of the right second lumbar artery by trancatheter arteial embolization (TAE) is described here.
A 64-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of lumbago. There was a previous history of undergoing a replacement of heart valvular disease about 10 years before. The patient had anemia and hemorrhagic spots were seen in the lumbar and right lower abdomen. Computed tomography revealed massive retroperitoneal bleeding. Angiography of the right second lumbar artery showed a 3×3mm aneurysm and extravasation of contrast medium. TAE by gerform was immediately carried out, with succesful outcome. The patient was discharged from the hospital on the 39th hospital day.
