Stress-strain behaviors and strength of cylindrical specimens of gravel which are rolled by rubber membrane or wire net are discussed theoretically with the thought that the granular assemblage of the specimen is the generalized rhombohedral system.
Results of experimental work on stress-strain relations of the specimens rolled by rubber membrane agree well with the calculation by the theory.
The calculated strength for the specimens which are rolled by wire net agree with experimental results when the effects of crushing of grain are taken into consideration.
