Abstract

The wings of sabo dams have been broken by the collision of large rocks in debris flows. The mechanism of the collision of large rocks to concrete sabo structures has been studied experimentally. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of shock absorbers. Some experiments were conducted with a small steel ball and cement mortar walls. The results were analized by two kinds of dynamic models ; lumped-mass 2-degree elastic systems without and with damping. It was proved that the latter model with two springs and two dashpots can explain the experimental results very well. The determination of model parameters of the model was discussed compared with other studies.
