布畦殖民新聞にみるハワイ日系移民のスポーツ活動に関する研究

抄録

The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristic of sports activities of Japanese-Americans in Hawaii from 1908 to 1914, with the “Hawaii Syokumin Shinbun” (1909-1913) as the historical materials.
For this purpose, the sporting events, the characteristics of events, and the way of how to report the sporting events that the sporting articles dealt with the issues of the newspapers, were examined.
The followings results were obtained.
1) Sports activities of Japanese-Americans such as Sumo, Gekken, Jyuujyutsu, Baseball were actively played in Hawaii.
2) Sports activities of Japanese-Americans were performed in the annual events of their homeland.
3) Japanese-Americans were absorbed in Japanese players victories.
These results suggest that Japanese-American devote themselves Japanese sports.
