Standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was calculated by record linkage of the file for the Osaka Cancer Registry to the list of workers who had undergone health examination from 1956 to 1960. The results showed 7 cases of cancer death and a SMR for total cancer deaths of 1.13, for stomach cancer 1.12, and for lung cancer 1.11. No significant difference was found between observed and expected values of cancer deaths. However, a case of lung cancer in a worker with 23 years and 11 months of service in chromium electroplating showed a high degree of skin ulcers and nasal septum perforation in the results of health examinations.
