A yearly camparison of food intake and expense on a girls college dormitory food intake, expense and nutritional value of each meal using a weighted average were obtained for 216 days in 1975 and 264 days in 1980. 1. Candy, fruit, milk and seasonings increased significantly for 10 years regarding the food intake, with a decrease seen regarding sugar, fat and oils, vegetables and meat.
2. Food expense increased about 1.6 times over a 10 year. The expense of fruit, fish and shellfish, candy and cereal showed a marked increase.The expense of peas and eggs slightly decreased.
3. Cereal, milk, vegetables and made up fruit 70% of the food intake. 63% of the food expense was from fish and shellfish, meal, fruit and cereal in 1985. Distribution of each nutrients for all food and food expense were obtained, and the study was carried out regarding food intake and expense and it was found that there was an insufficient intake of iron and calcium.
