A new optical apparatus for displaying three-dimensional motion images has been developed by using a series of water plasma created by the laser breakdown mechanism. A pulse YAG laser output is spatially scanned by using optical scanners and projected into a water tank. Maximum 3D bitmap image size of 1 centimeter and the image resolution of 10 pixels per millimeter were obtained at the pulse frequency of 500 Hertz. The three-dimensional motion image could be colored by seeing through the electronically controlled liquid-crystal color panel. [This abstract is not included in the PDF]
