The flora of vascular plants on Aka-jima Island, Kerama Islands, Okinawa, located in the most south-western part of Japan, was analyzed by using the mesh method with 400 plots of 100 m-by-100 m square each which covered over whole island inculding the satelite islets. The three ecological groups of species-montane, coastal and intermediate(lowland)-were ordinated by simultaneous ordination of the species and the plots. The motane group mainly cosists of plants grown in warm-temperate forests, whereas a number of tropical coastal plants appears in the coastal group. Such a fact fairly coincides with the typical vegetation structure found on the continental islands of the Ryukyus.
