Abstract
The authors have been investigating the characteristics and performance of a piston-cylinder type reciprocating snow compressing machine, which is used to reduce the volume of snow.
In this report, the authors investigated the fundamental performance of the snow compressing machine driven by the 2 type oil pumps of constant velocity, i.e.2 stage oil pump, by measuring the changes of compression pressure and compressing work during the compressing process of compacted snow of-10°C. The effects of the density of the filling snow on the performance of the machine were discussed. Following results were obtained.
The two stage oil pump is suitable for the snow compressing machine when the piston is driven under the constant velocity mode. The appropriate maximum compressing pressure of the snow is about 8 MPa. The actual coefficient of performance of compression of the snow are in the range of 20 to 40. The lower the density of the filling snow is, the higher the density of the obtained compressed snow is and the lower the energy converting efficiency is.
