To use an electric blasting method in all headings have been thought as unnecessary or impossible in metal mines. And so the fuse blasting method have been used in almost all of them.
At Ikuno mine, however, we began to experiment the electric blasting method in april 1950. Since last September we have adopted using this method of blasting in all headings, and we have found that we could tmprove underground working conditions in many ways by this method. For instance, by this new method, drilling and blasting operations may be separated to increase efficiency of both operations.
Here, this paper will present method of operation and item of improvements.
Any criticisms or comments are welcomed.
Items of improvements are as follows:
1) Prevention of blasting accidents.
2) Prevention of silicosis by enabling blasting all rounds in the third shift.
3) Possible to standardize drilling-rounds and to promote successive drilling.
4) increase of drilling efficiency per shift.
5) Promontion of “Centralization of headings”.
6) Reduction of costs of excavation.
