Recent Technical Trends in Marine Coatings

Abstract

A special type of coating is required to protect vessels that are permanently submerged in sea water from corrosion and attack from marine organisms. In recent years, new coatings have been developed in their respective fields in order to comply with international regulations. Here we present a coating for water ballast tanks that enables visual judgement of film thickness as well as a low friction and fuel saving type antifouling coating that incorporates hydrogel into the coating film via an innovative technology.
