Abstract

It is very important to understand the pigment particle size for the study to promote the quality of pigments. For the anaysis of pigment particle size, it is necessary to make the suspension of particles dispersed perfectly. And when the suspension is diluted with solvent, it should never aggrigate. By dispersing the pigment into alkyd resin varnish with the dispersing agent (I), We could obtain the non aggregated suspension. The suitalbe amount of the dispersing agent was about 10% of the base pigment.
CuPC-SO2N(CH2)3N(C2H5)2 (I)
The mean diameter measured by the Sub-micron Particle Analyzer (COLUTER Model N4) was correlated to the one calculated by volume average from means of length and width of each particle in transmission electron micrographs.
We estimated that the difference between two diameters shows the adsorption layer. In case of C. I. Pigment Blue 15 : 3, its thickness was about 10 nm.
