Titanium-containing organic-inorganic hybrid (T-SMA) was synthesized by the reaction of styrene/maleic anhydride alternative copolymer (SMA) with titanium chelate (ETE). The coating film was obtained by dip-coating of a T-SMA solution on substrates, such as organic polymers, metals, silicon wafer, and soda lime glass. The adhesion of the coating film of T-SMA was higher than that of the coating film of SMA, ETE, and a corresponding zirconium-containing organic-inorganic hybrid. The pencil hardness of the coating film increased with increases in the molecular weight of SMA and the content of ETE. Moreover, the refractive index of the coating film was almost the same regardless of the molecular weight of SMA, but increased with an increase in the content of ETE.
