Abstract

ICP atomic emission spectrometry was applied for determination of barium (Ba) in food color aluminum (Al) lakes. Ba in food color Al lakes is in an insoluble form, but could be dissolved by adding nitric acid. The recovery of Ba from food color Al lakes at the level of 1mg/100mg was 92.6-97.4%, with high precision. Contents of Ba in Japanese commercial Al lakes were found to range from 18.5 to 21.6μg/g.
