The diagnosis of soft tissue tumors is difficult for several reasons.
Many soft tissue tumors have overlapping histologic appearances, may change during the course of the disease.
Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcoma. It is classified by the histological findings. Myxoid liposarcoma, the most common type of it, is difficult to distinguish from other myxoid tumors, especially myxoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Lipid stain and immunohistochemical examination are helpful for the diagnosis.
We report a case of a 36-year old male with a tumor on his left leg.
Histologically, we found round cells, signet-like cells, vacuolated cells and myxoid material. There were a few mitotic figures.
Special stain (lipid stain, S-100 protein, vimentin, PAS, alucian blue, silver stain) and electron microscopic examination help us to diagnosis of the tumor.
