This paper considers whether employment opportunities for Korean workers decreased due to the intake of foreign workers after the downturn in the shipbuilding industry starting in 2015. The paper clarifies the following points.
Judging from these results, although the shipbuilding industry took a downturn from 2015, no decline in employment opportunities for Korean workers due to competition with foreign workers could be identified. Further, considering that foreign workers are doing work for which it is hard to employ Koreans and in positions that are complementary to Korean workers, we can determine that Korean government policies to take in foreign workers are working well in the shipbuilding industry.
