Platinum is the most important catalyst used in fuel cells. However, gradual loss of active areas of platinum catalysts during operation is a serious problem. Electrochemical oxidation-reduction cycle is considered to be one of the main factors to accelerate the dissolution of platinum surfaces. In this study, the effect of electrode potential on the structural change of platinum surfaces was studied at low-index surface planes of single crystalline platinum electrodes.
