Abstract

In this paper, to evaluate the ion transport properties of hollow fiber (HF) type ion exchange membranes prepared by coating porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) HF support with sulfonated polyethersulfone (SPES) polymer solution, Donnan dialysis experiments were performed using NaCl solution as the driving electrolyte and a mixed solution of NH4Cl and CaCl2 as the model treated water. Donnan dialysis using the fabricated HF membranes showed about 90 % NH4+ and Ca2+ recovery in 96 h. These results indicate that HF ion exchange membranes fabricated with this method can be applied to concentrated separation of specific ions in solutions such as industrial waste water.
