An strict anaerobic organism, possibly related to Clostridium fissum (Debono) Bergey et a 1, was isolated from swelled cans of Oyster (Ostrea gigans Thunberg) in vegetable oil.
There samples swelled in 2 or 14days after processed at 110°C for 90minutes in author's laboratory. (about 70% of 225 cooked samples swelled.)
The heat tolerance tests indicate that spores of the organism survive 108°C for 30minutes.
It was also found another strain closely related to the swelled cans type in digestive tracts of fresh oysters.
