Eggs of “Ugui”, a species belonging to the genus Triborodon, were collected and artificially fertilized around the mouth of the River Shichinohe, on the coast of the Lake Kogawara in Aomori Prefecture, in June, 1947. Transported by train to the Onagawa Fisheries Laboratory of Tohoku University, the fertilized eggs have been kept in glass vessels with the capacity of 1 litre and used as materials for artificial culture. Experiments have drawn results as follows.
(1) The pre-larval fish, which had hatched out in the 7th to the 9th days after fertilization at 14-17°C., grew without food supply and reached about 11mm. length in 11-13 days.
(2) The post-larval fish, having almost absorbed their own yolks and grown up about 10mm. length, could be fed with artificial foods, fish-meal and egg-yolk of chicken, but such living organisms as Navicula sp., Monas sp., Moina rectirostris, Daphnia sp. and Simocephalus sp. were not suitable as their first food.
(3) After the post-larval fish had acquired some growth, they took zoo-plankton, especially water-flea Moina macrocopa, as well as the artificial food. Moina macrocopa was one of the most suitable foods for the fish in such a stage. Those fish can supply good stock in ponds and lakes.
