The amounts of urea and volatile basic nitrogen in the muscle of some cartilaginous fishes were determined by the same methods as described in our prcvious paper, and the following results were obtained; the muscle of frozen or ice-stored fishes on the market contains about 1.0-2.0 per cent urea and 9-130mg. per cent volatile basic nitrogen respectively (Tables 1 and 2), but the former amounts to 1.7-2.0 per cent and the latter is 6-36mg. per cent on some freshcaught fishes (Table 3). The embryo also contains the same amounts as the adult fishes of the higher content (Table 4).
