Rainbow trout fry from 27 hatcheries and culture farms located in the prefectures of Shizuoka, Nagano, Yamanashi, Tokushima, Shimane, and Tokyo were examined viroloigcally for virus infestaions. The virus, isolated from 24 of the samples and titers, ranged from 105.8 to 108.2 TCID50 per ml. In the three additional prefectures, Tokushima, Shimane, and Tokyo, the virus was isolated for the first time.
Virus was isolated in both spring and summer fry and from these facts it can be concluded that the virus is widespread in Japan and epizootics occur regardless of season.
