Distribution pattern of the adrenal gland in seahorse kidney was investigated histologically, using three species, Hippocampus aterrimus, H. japonicus and H. spinosissimus. During the course of this investigation, these seahorses were confirmed to have aglomerular kidneys. The interrenai tissue, one component of seahorse adrenal gland, was located in the head kidney which contains many renal tubules. Furthermore, the tissue was detected in the wall of the postcardinal vein adjacent to the head kidney. The chromaffin cells, the other component of seahorse adrenal gland, were situated mainly in the wall of postcardinal vein, and also in the head kidney, inter-spersing in the interrenal tissue of these regions.
