Abstract

Recent decisions of the Supreme Court and lower courts concerning freedom of religion and nonestablishment have provoked considerable public and academic controversies. The religion clauses of the Constitution of Japan, Article 20 and Article 89, and the abundance of court decisions have been objects of scrutiny. This report will cover only several recent cases.
