Abstract

Our preliminary experiment made it clear that the pick-up of designs was possible, and that pick-up machine used could be regulated.
The next research is aim at getting data on desings by such methods as:
(1) Punching the card by automatic machine.
(2) Testing blankets woven by the above-mentioned process.
(3) Analyzing various defects noticed on the woven blankets and devising preventive measures against defects.
(4) Improving the operation of the machine.
Using the geometrical pattern of a basic design, we first saw how large or small figures of straight and oblique lines round from and regular square form would show on the woven blanket.
Second, by actual weaving, we tested exactly how blankets and fabrics were patterned with these figures.
Finally, we found that this research was successful, and that blankets and fabrics so patterned were perfectly marketable.
Therefore, the test weaving was repeated several times, and the efficiency of this automatic punching machine was throughly examined.
Through these processes, the following data were obtained:
(1) Drum apparatus on which the design is put must be precisely machined. For intermittent forwarding motions, a mechanical device is better than an electrical one.
(2) Conductive color is difficult to lay on.
For even coating, it is necessary to use dispersive agents in proper quality.
(3) Stripes less than 3mm in width cannot be pick up accurately.
(4) A Straight line in the warp direction is apt to deflect, but the deflection is inconspicuous if the line is thick.
(5) The transistor amplifier works without difficulty.
Micro-relay has to be of the plug-in system. It is better to use a mercury wetted contact relay.
(6) The machine trially built is equipped with card which set in a longitudinal direction and its productivity is not high.
Therefore, the machine for actual service has to equipped with cards set in a horizontal direction and built in a double-punch head type. Then, its productive capacity will be 300 cards/hr.
