In order to examine the effect of shot peening on the corrosion behavior of high carbon spring steel S60C by the changes of passive state or the state of pitting formation, anodic polarization curves were measured under various applied stresses in undeairated 3%NaCl solution.
The main results obtained are summerized as follows;
1) Shot peened surface becomes electrochemically more stable.
2) Shot peened is depressed the formation of deep pit above 3μm. Conseguently, the possibility of fracture caused by pitting corrosion should decreased.
3) It is supposed to be mainly because of dispersion of impurity elements segregation and residual compression stress by shot peening respectively.
