Abstract
The flow around a rectangular cylinder which moves over a plate at low Reynolds numbers has been studied by experiments of dye-injection method and force measurements. The working fluid is water and oil. In the numerical calculations, a computational code is composed of the finite difference method and the solution is solved by SMAC algorithm. The flows and fluid forces were obtained by changing the gap-to-height ratio S/H and the width-to-height ratio B/H of a cross section of the rectangular cylinder, as parameters. We employed the periodic and the non-slip conditions for the boundary conditions at the rectangular cylinder ends in the calculation. It was found that numerical results with the non-slip condition are in good agreement with experimental results, and clarified the interesting effects of parameters, B/H, S/H and Reynolds number, Re.
