The present study analyzed the effects of temporal parameters of stimulus on motion assimilation for sinusoidal gratings. The motion assimilation occurred when both the test and the inducing gratings were displaced abruptly in a two-frame motion display, but not when either or both of them were drifted continuously. The magnitude of motion assimilation was eliminated for the near-stationary test grating, and the magnitude became reduced for the inducing grating presented in a four-frame display. These results were discussed by taking into account of the spatiotemporal frequency components of the stimuli and temporal integration of motion signals.
