To introduce digital video services into the demand-access optical CATV system, we evaluated three kinds of BS-IF band 16-QAM signal receivers for use in subscriber's digital tuners. The receivers tested are the straight receiving system, the heterodyne receiving system and the heterodyne receiving system with automatic frequency control. Experimental results showed that the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the receiving 16-QAM signal was below 10^<-4> for all three receivers when the carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the signal was over 20.0 dB. The frequency offset, about ±2MHz of the input signal, was allowed to attain the same BER performance.
