Abstract

Pine wilt disease is spreading out in Japanese pine forest. Control efforts have been taken on the infested trees which become the source of infection in the next year. Infested trees are scattered around large forest areas, which makes it difficult to identify and treat them. We developed a special technique of 3D-measurement using aerial photography. The positions of the infested trees are identified and measured from a stereo pair of aerial photographs, ground navigation system in the forest, and the automatic flight system of the unmanned helicopter. The total system to control pint wilt disease can be effective to the other forest diseases.
