The insecticidal action of the pungent principles of Xanthoxylum piperitum DC., sanshoöl-I (N-isobutyl-2, 4, 8-dodecatrieneamide) and sanshoöl-II (N-isobutyl-2, 4, 8, 10-dodecatetraeneamide), was studied under a comparison with that of spilanthol (N-isobutyl-4, 6-decadieneamide), pungent principle of Spilanthes oleraceae Jacq., using Culex pipiens Pallens as the test insect. The results obtained (Table I) showed that all of them were active as insecticides.
