Preparation of 5, 6-bis (2-furyl)-2-aminopyrazine (IV) was carried out by the Hoffmann reaction (yield 4%) of 5, 6-bis (2-furyl)-pyrazinecarboxamide (II), the Curtius reaction (yield 9%) of 5, 6-bis (2-furyl)-2-pyrazinoyl azide (VII), and by the alkaline decomposition and decarboxylation (yield 53%) of 5, 6-bis (2-furyl) lumazine (XXXIV). 5, 6-Bis (5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-aminopyrazine (XXV) was prepared by the Curtius reaction of 5, 6-bis (5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-pyrazinoyl azide (XXII) and from IV by a different method. Reaction of VII and XXII with seven kinds of amines afforded the corresponding urea derivatives. 5, 6-Bis (2-furyl)-2-sulfanilamidopyrazine (XXXVIII) and 5, 6-bis (5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-sulfanilamidopyrazine (XXXIX) were also prepared from IV.
