The ether extract of Muira puama (Liriosma ovata Miers) was examined. As the major constituent, an ester mixture, consisting of behnic, arachic, and homologous longchained fatty acid esters of lupeol, was isolated. The free lupeol, campesterol, and β-sitosterol were minor constituents. In the couse of this examination, it was found that the substance C (A, α-sterol) reported by Auterhoff and Pankow was identical with lupeol.
