Application of the sodium salt of pentachlorophenol and potassium thiocyanate to 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine gave the compounds 2-(pentachlorophenoxy)-5-nitropyridine (I) and 5-nitro-2-pyridyl thiocyanate (II).
