    表面粗さは接着強度,濡れ性,光散乱などの様々な特性に影響を与え,材料開発における重要な制御因子の一つである。また,自然界では表面の凹凸構造を利用して優れた機能を生み出している。例えば,蛾の目を模した反射防止フィルム,蓮の葉を模した超疎水性材料,ヤモリの足を模した粘着テープなどが報告されている。このような微細な凹凸構造を作製する有効な方法の一つとして,ナノ粒子の自己組織化の利用があげられる。本稿では,溶媒揮発時の毛細管力の影響に着目した代表的な研究を取り上げ,ナノ粒子の配列を制御するコーティング法に関する先行研究を解説する。また,昇華,高分子固化,熱処理を利用して球状粒子の二次元及び三次元配列や,異形粒子の配向を制御する自己組織化アプローチについても詳しく解説する。さらに,我々が最近検討を進めているナノ粒子配列を反射防止コーティングに応用した例を紹介する。

    Wood is known to be a polymer complex, including in cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Generally, their chemical structural analyses have been difficult without their separation and purification. However, a gel-state 2D NMR method for wood samples has been applied to various fields since it was developed. In this method, the spectra can be obtained that explain the structural information about polysaccharides and lignin in wood, just by the ball milling and the dispersion to the deuterium solvent mixture (DMSO-d6/pyridine-d5),without any separation. Recently, this method has been applied to the wood adhesive’s researches. Some findings about interphase chemical structures between wood and adhesives have been obtained. This review introduced the chemical structures of the main wood components( cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin),then, the 2D NMR method including the preparation and the examples of the spectra. Finally, the recently reported researches about chemical structural analyses of the chemical bonding type wood adhesives were introduced.

    Synthesis of amphiphilic copolymer which can respond to external stimuli such as temperature, pH and molecular recognition has been developed to form micellar-like nano carrier and soft hydrogel through the self-assembly of the copolymer via the changes of hydrophilic and lipophilic balance(HLB)upon external stimuli in water. In addition, a stimuli-responsive copolymer with host molecules has been designed in which a macrocyclic host, cyclodextrin(CD)can stably bind guest molecules through the inclusion complex by hostguest interaction in water to encapsulate various pharmaceutical drugs in the hydrophobic cavity and release them in response to external stimulus on demand. According to the motivation, the review focuses on the two types of CD host-modified copolymers. The one is that nano-sized cyclodextrin-crosslinked copolymer(CD nanogel)shows thermo-gelling property upon heating and can encapsulate hydrophilic or lipophilic dye as model drug, resulting in overcoming the sustained drug release as function of time course. The other one is that temperature- and pH-responsive copolymer comprising CD pendant groups shows self-association behavior through the molecular recognition and the subsequent HLB change by inclusion complexation of lipophilic dye. The micellar-like nanoparticles, worm-like colloids and phase separation behavior can be modulated by controlling pH values and temperature.

    In the last decades, the advances of coordination polymerization chemistry mainly focused on the more precise synthesis of polyolefins based on the earlier achievements about living polymerization, stereospecific polymerization, and copolymerization using functional monomers. Unique catalyst systems are still mainly designed by the conventional try-and-error approach, but some adopted a new method such as machine learning. In addition, relating parameters other than number-averaged molecular weight(Mn)and heterogeneity index (Đ)describing the molecular weight distribution of the polymer with physical properties of polyolefins are recently attempted. Here, examples of these achievements in the last several years are summarized.
