    In evaluating the performance of evacuation safety at a building fire, the evacuation time is generally compared with the smoke filling time, or the smoke temperature and gas concentrations are compared with reference value. The smoke filling time, etc. are often predicted using BRI2002 or simple equations. However, these simple equations are solved under the condition of no smoke exhaust system, so the effect of smoke exhaust system cannot be evaluated. Hence, in this study, we have proposed improved simple equations for predicting the smoke layer height that can appropriately take into consideration the effect of the smoke exhaust system. And applying these equations to several sample spaces and comparing them with a computer model, we have verified their predicting capabilities. As a result, we see these simple equations calculate safer side value than BRI2002, a two-layer zone model, often used as a tool in evacuation safety design.

    There are two kinds of Thermal-Sensation research: climate chamber research and field research. Field research has the advantage of normally, so that peoples' responses are likely to be similar to those in daily life, and the environments fairly typical of the normal housing stock. This paper describes the experimental result on the effect of heating of soles on Thermal-Sensation of subject in winter real void-space. The results are as follows;
    The relationship between room temperature and thermal sensation votes was determined. Using a primary approximation line derived from an approximation line formula, we found the room temperatures at which the thermal sensation throughout the body was neutral. This room temperature was 23.8°C when soles were unheated, 20.2°C when soles were heated. We found that direct contact heating of the soles has a greater effect on thermal sensation throughout the body wholes in winter real void-space.

    The aim of this study is to develop the measurement method of multi-zonal airflow rates via human expiration (CO2). The adopted method measures multi-zonal airflow rates based on system identification theory. Also, it is a simple and cost effective method that is suitable to apply in domestic places. In addition, the method will only have minimal interference in the daily life of the residents concerned. As a step toward the practical use of this measurement method, several experimental studies were carried out in a full-scale test house and an existing house in order to investigate the accuracy.

    The increasing height and density of buildings in cities is causing a reduction in wind velocity and an increase in energy consumption, resulting in an increase in waste heat. This is one of the causes warming the urban atmosphere. In order to tackle the aggravated thermal environmental problem of cities, it is important to understand the thermal structure of atmospheric turbulence in heated urban canopy layer. However, knowledge on the transport characteristics of heat flux and momentum flux is still lacking. We investigated the effects of gross coverage building ratios on heat and momentum transport characteristics when urban canopy layer is kept with uniform building height and aligned arrangements using thermally stratified wind tunnel. The obtained results about roughness lengths and bulk transport coefficients related to heat and momentum were compared to actual field results.

    The actual level of market penetration of cost-effective energy efficient technologies is often below its optimal level, which is theoretically recognized as the “energy efficiency gap” caused by various factors called “energy efficiency (EE) barriers”. The purpose of this study is to reveal if and what EE barriers exist through a case study of room air-conditioners in Japan and to discuss appropriate measures for the removal of barriers. First, we examine impact of EE barriers by a questionnaire survey based on a theoretical classification in previous studies. Next, CO2 emission reduction potential curves are derived. The result shows that about two-thirds of the economic reduction potential from the residential space-heating and cooling possibly becomes unavailable by the influence of EE barriers, implying appropriate measures to remove EE barriers are as important as the technology development is.

    The bridge which is one of the large span structures is essential to social infrastructures for our recent life styles. However, the deterioration or collapse would happen under service conditions. Such a damage of the bridges would affect not only on economic activities but also our lives. By considering the social impact, maintenance of existing bridges should be planned carefully and their repairs should be executed immediately as soon as possible when the severe problems were observed. Therefore, predicting the current conditions of the bridge is valuable for repairing bridges and it also could bring reduction for amount of the field investigations. So, this system stored survey results and environment information surrounding the bridges. And the system can reason the deterioration of bridges based on Neural Network. In short, the system can identify the bridge that is being degraded.

    The reuse system mentioned in this paper is an overall system for realizing a reuse business in a cyclic of process in a reuse flow, namely, design, fabrication, construction, maintenance, dismantling, and storage. Here, we take up Rolled H-section steels used for non-fireproof plants and warehouses. It is easy to handle them as reusable members because of manufactured in accordance with Japanese Industrial Standard.
    Recently, environment of product is investigated. It is used as an environmental management in various fields. And it is important in the reuse system to evaluate the environment. This paper examines environment of reuse system following 2 aspects. First, the estimation method of CO2 emission according to circulation of reuse flow and CO2 emission intensities based on its method are shown. Secondly, a trial calculation of CO2 emission in the reuse flow using mid-rise steel frame building model is conducted.
