    The wayfinding experiments on evacuation in fire were carried out in two large terminal railway stations in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. The subjects were stranger to these stations. In addition, questionnaires about the fire evacuation behavior and knowledge of emergency information in a railway station were conducted for one hundred and forty-seven college students and the subjects of the wayfinding experiments. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The evacuee tends to follow the normal direction sign instead of the emergency exit sign in the station. 2. The evacuee decides his way in a crossing. 3. The evacuee selects his route tentatively or by a sense of distance if he is not able to find a clear direction sign

    In this study, we conducted experiments using fifteen types of actual vibrations in detached houses. The objectives were to examine the influence of changes in the characteristics of the predominant frequency and the waveform pattern and to investigate the characteristics of sensory evaluation. The effects of predominant frequency and waveform pattern were non-significant. When psychological quantity was small, the evaluation curve tendency for feelings of anxiety and discomfort with random vibrations was similar to that of the perception of random vibrations. Conversely, when psychological quantity was larger, the effect of predominant frequency became smaller for feelings of anxiety and discomfort.

    A mock-up test was conducted with a one-story test house (3.64m by 3.64m) with eaves ventilation in the suburb of Tokyo to examine the hygrothermal conditions in an attic space. A series of measurements were carried out to clarify the effect of the vent opening area, an air stopper insulation in the partitioning, and the vented cavity of outer wall on the hygrothermal conditions. Main findings from the experiments are as follows; 1. The absolute humidity in the attic space is hardly changes from midnight to early morning. Condensation on the surface of sheathing roof board occurs because the nocturnal radiation and outdoor temperature reduces the surface under dew-point. 2. The surface absolute humidity of the lower part of the north facing sheathing roof board gradually decreases in the afternoon, with keeping higher values than those of the central part and the attic space air. This is probably because the moisture content in the lower part is higher than that at the central part. 3. Occasionally, the absolute humidity in the attic is lower than outdoors. 4. The attic space-connected vented cavity contributes to keeping low humidity in the attic air since the influx air is drier than the outdoor air. This contribution ratio is not low, so the inclusion of its effect is necessary for examining ideal ventilation areas.

    In the previous paper, I proposed a one-equation-type subgrid-scale (SGS) model for a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of plant canopy flows. In that paper, the SGS turbulent energy equation was derived from the equations of continuity and Navier-Stokes. The SGS turbulent energy equation was closed by modeling several unknown terms which appeared in the equation. In this paper I tried to modify the modeling of the turbulent diffusion terms and the viscous dissipation rate. The turbulent diffusion terms were modeled in a unified way. The viscous dissipation rate was modeled using two length scales.

    The air quality during winter period in elementary/secondary schools located in metropolitan district X was analyzed by using results of the environmental hygienic audit. The period of analysis was set as 3 years from 2007 to 2009. The following conclusions were obtained; 1) The average values of air temperature, the relative humidity, and CO2 concentration in classrooms of the elementary schools met the standard of school environmental hygiene. 2) The ratio of the CO2 observations exceeding the standard value of 1500 ppm in the elementary schools was 30.5 %, and that in the secondary schools was 58.5 %. 3) The clear tendency that the lower the outdoor temperature, the higher the heating usage ratio, was observed both in the elementary and the secondary schools. Under the same outdoor temperature condition, the heating usage ratio in the secondary schools was higher than that in the elementary schools. 4) Under the same outdoor temperature condition, the average room temperature in the classrooms of the secondary schools was significantly higher than that of the elementary schools. The average CO2 concentrations in the secondary schools exceeded the standard values under the all temperature classes.

    In this study, an active energy-saving control system installed on a SaaS type BEMS has been examined. This system is easy to be introduced to small and medium-sized buildings by SaaS type BEMS, configuring a virtual BEMS depending on the physical equipment setting of the building. This active energy-saving control of air-conditioning makes an energy saving possible by controlling of indoor air-conditioning unit and is also characterized by its method to reduce the room conditioning deterioration by sensing the occupants' on/off operation behavior onto the air-conditioning. This paper describes the result of the developed air-conditioning energy saving control system by the summer season data of an office space in a medium sized building.

    In this study, future projections of the thermal environment in the summer of the 2050s in the Nagoya metropolitan area were carried out by using a regional atmospheric model, Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF). Three disaster-mitigation/prevention type urban structure models were introduced for the future projections. A tsunami-damage mitigation/prevention model, a strong-motion damage mitigation/prevention model, and a liquefaction-damage mitigation/prevention model were designed as the future urban structure models considering a reduction of the urban area according to a projected decrease in population. By comparing with the results obtained from the present land-use model, their impacts on the future thermal environment were quantitatively investigated.

    The goal of this research is to obtain knowledge about an impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the wide area air temperature sensitivity of electric power consumption. To find a relevant air temperature, we propose a weighted mean air temperature, which obtained with daytime and nighttime population. As the result, we recognized as follows: Energy saving movement in society was clearly recognized after the earthquake (energy consumption reduced to 60% in the sensitivity). From the result in summer 2012, impact of human factor on air temperature sensitivities was recognized continuously.

    The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami which occurred on March 11, 2011 caused widespread damage and electricity shortage. So the Japanese government has directed large-scale electricity users to curb their consumption by 15 percent of what they used last summer. However, excessive saving electricity forces office workers to be patient, and it can lead to productivity decline. In this study, the field survey and questionnaire survey were conducted in six buildings saving on electricity to study the indoor environment, the workers' productivity and energy conservation. As a result, it was found that the rise of temperature leads to the sharp decline of productivity and comfort, and that power saving of lighting made less dissatisfaction for office workers and reduced more electric energy than turning up the air conditioning. Office workers can keep productivity if there are no dissatisfactions for them. Therefore, lowering illuminance is found to be more effective for saving electricity than turning up the air conditioning.
