This study on mortar reinforced with discontinuous carbon fibers intends to examine the flexural stress-deflection relation by analysis using the experimentally obtained tensile and compressive stress-strain relations and the crack density of flexural test specimen. The summaries of the results are as follows; (1) By using the crack density, the error between analytically and experimentally obtained deflections gets smaller compared to former analysis. (2) From the analytically obtained data in the condition of maximum flexural load, the distributions of stress and the extreme fiber strains in cross-section and the relationship between the deflections loaded under two different conditions are discussed. (3) The crack density of flexural test specimen can be predicted from independently obtained result of tensile test.

More than 1,000 experimental data on unit weight and mechanical properties of high strength concrete, i.e. tensile splitting strength, modulus of rupture, strain at peak strength and Poisson's ratio, were collected and investigated statistically. The type of coarse aggregates was considered as an important factor which had a large effect on the mechanical properties and the unit weight. As a result, practical and universal formulas for predicting tensile splitting strength, modulus of rupture and strain at peak strength from compressive strength were proposed, which was applied to concrete with a wide range of compressive strength. Appropriate values of Poisson's ratio and unit weight were also proposed depending on the level of compressive strength of concrete.

A weathering test was conducted at three regions in Hokkaido for eleven years Color, weight and gloss were measured and defects were inspected annually. The data were analyzed statistically and rankings concerning weatherability were decided. The specimens which were consist of aluminum alloy or galvanised steel as substrates with polyvinylidenefluoride as vehicle of baking paints showed best rankings. AIl population means of these properties increased with the lapse of time throughout the test term. The best rankings were found for Rumoi concerning discoloration, for Rumoi and Kitami concerning gloss decrease and for Sapporo and Kitami concerning maximum defectless terms.

How administrative organ and people should conduct when a tornado has occurred are described under the facts and figures of the questionnaire to the people in damaged areas of Mobara city in 1990 and the reports of fact-finding in damaged area from a tornado occurred in Japan. The investigation mainly present the expenses and days of restoration, accident insurance benefit, move of administrative organ, and the other suggestive materials occurring a tornado. In addition, significant features of the damage from a tornado are showed under the report of people who, were confronted with the tornado.

Probabilistic analysis with multi non-normal random variables requires multi-fold integration, for which closed form solutions do not exist and which is not amenable to numerical treatment. This paper presents an efficient probability analysis method using Fast Fourier Transform taking into account that (1) a probability density function and its characteristic function are a pair of Fourier Transform, and (2) the characteristic function of the sum of statistically independent random variables is given by the product of the characteristic functions of each random variable. The accuracy and applicability of the method are investigated using numerical examples.

Microtremor mesurements are conducted at two sites using arrays of three-component sensors. The frequency-wavenumber spectrum analysis of measured motions leads to the following conclusions: (1) Horizontal motions reflect combined characteristics of Rayleigh- and Love-waves, while vertical motions those of Rayleigh waves; (2) Rayleigh- and Love-wave characteristics can be extracted from radial and transverse horizontal motions if they are propagated from the same azimuth; and(3)Both vertical and horizontal motions tend to be inversely dispersive when the response spectra of higher-modes are equivalent to or greater than that of the fundamental-mode.

The frame with energy concentration is the frame in which the inelastic energy absorption is limited to the specified stories of the frame, the other parts of the frame remaining elastic. It has been already made clear that the seismic response of the frame with energy concentration in the first story can be easily predicted in the case that the energy absorbing stories consist of the flexible elements and the stiff ones. In this paper, a general method for the prediction of seismic response of the flexible-stiff mixed frame with energy concentration in arbitrary stories is derived.

Most of experimental studies on soil-structure interaction have been focused on the evaluation of impedance functions that represents the relationship between the dynamic response of rigid foundation and external forces. However, it is important to obtain the foundation input motions as well as the impedance functions in order to evaluate properly the seismic response of soil-structure system. This paper presents an approximate but practical method to evaluate the foundation input motions based on sparsely observed earthquake ground motions. The characteristics of the foundation input motions are also discussed. The comparison between the results obtained by the proposed method and the numerically calculated results shows good coincidence in lower frequencies. The method can be applied to practical purpose to evaluate observationally the foundation input motions for structures before construction.

Experienced shear strain dependency of high damping rubber bearing which is induced by Mullins effect of rubber is one of influencial dependency to earthquake response. So the effect of experienced shear strain dependency on earthquake response of isolation structure should be evaluated. We carried out earthquake response loading tests. From these tests, we indicated that loading history must be taken into account. And then earthquake response analysis are performed by modified double target model which is able to take into account the experienced shear strain dependency. From earthquake response analysis, the effect of experienced shear strain dependency on earthquake response are evaluated.

Previous earthquake resistant design method has mainly pursued the structural safety by providing structures with the strength and inelastic deformation capacity, neglecting other performance such as the reduction of acceleration responses and the avoidance of interruption of daily activities. On the other hand, newly developing base-isolated structures have made it possible to satisfy these additional performance by applying rubber bearings with extremely large vertical bearing capacity and shear-deformation capacity. In this paper, whether such a diversified structural performance can be realized or not within the framework of ordinary earthquake resistant design method is discussed. As a conclusion, it is made clear that flexible-stiff mixed structures can be a general solution to the problem.

The purpose of this paper is to prove that any dynamic response of a multi-degree of freedom system with an arbitrary type of non-linear property can be solved with required accuracy by application of the incremental perturbation method. Namely it will be theoretically shown that a set of explicit formula for calculating all the perturbation coefficients up to any order can be derived from the equations of motion through the proposed general procedure. This solution method is shown applicable to any dynamic problem, in which generalized forces can be expressed by analytical functions of generalized displacements, velocities and accelerations. The effectiveness of the proposed incremental perturbation method will be demonstrated by a successful result of dynamic response simulation of a multistory building model with high viscosity fluid damper.

In order to exermine the characteristic of stress distribution and the deformation mode of the composite-material. Green Function of infinite body with inclusion as a basic result would be need, and Green Function as a general solution for BEM is useful. In this paper, using the method of complex variable function, we could derive easily the general solutions of this problem. The solutions could be derived concretely by applying Cauchy in tergal for the complex function which given by conformal mapping of the shape of inclusion and the Green Funtion of elastic body. For any shape of the inclusion, the solutions could be derived by this general solution. As an instance, a solutions of in case of elliptic inclusion is given.

In this present report, we describe a fundamental study on the hollow-sectional determination. The substance is estimate methord in the size of efective hollow- sectional of the bending failure preced type, namely this methord use equation of the web-flange simul taneously failure and equation of the bending-shearing failure boundary. Hence, making good use of the merits of these two equation, we made the specimen of hollow-beem to be proved the theory by experiments whether is estimated failure type. And we made experiments of hollow-beam. As a result, the calculated values is generally in a fairly good agreement with the experimental values.

The transfer length of a deformed bar used for prestressing steel in a pretensioned prestressed concrete was investigated. The transfer length test and the tensile reinforced concrete prism test were performed, and the bond-slip relationships were obtained from both tests. The bond-slip relationships of the prestress transfer bond was similar to that of the bond in the tensile prism, but signs in the relationship equations were reversed. For practical use, the transfer lengths of the deformed bars were calculated using the tensile bondslip relationships.

HT780 high strength steel plate is planned to be applied to structural members. For building use, the following properties and process should be required: maintaining toughness of the heat affected zone, restraining hydrogen crack in weld metal, reducing the pre-heat temperature, lowering the yield ratio and so on. This paper represents the results of development of new HT780 thick plate and new welding process satisfying the above requirements. Furthermore, it is also examined tensile mechanical properties of joints of this new HT780 thick plates welded by the new process.

Recently, studies on seismic energy isolation and damping structures abound and a number of attenuation mechanisms have been proposed. One of them proposes to utilize the elasto-plastic hysteresis of steel, using low yield strength steel as material. This study conducted low-cycle fatigue tests to clarify the low-cycle fatigue characteristics. Hysteresis characteristics and energy absorption characteristics of low yield strength steel will be discussed in the next report. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained concerning low-cycle fatigue characteristics of low yield strength steel. (1) The low-cycle fatigue characteristics (ε-N_f relationship) of low yield strength steel can be expressed by the Manson-Coffin equation. (2) Despite major differences in static ductility and other properties, low-cycle fatigue characteristics vary little by steel type. (3) The effect of strain rate on low-cycle fatigue characteristics is small. (4) The Monson-Coffin equation's coefficient C_1 and m_1 of low yield strength steel deviate from the values obtainable from the conventionally proposed equations. (5) A correlation of C_1=2.1/460^<ml> exists in all types of steel.

To reduce fabrication time and labor, the authors have developed a concrete-filled square steel tubular column to a steel-beam connection reinforced with casting steel parts. To understand the elasto plastic behavior of local part of the connection, structural testing were carried out on local models of theconnection. The test results confirmed that the load-displacement relationship is influenced by the first veilded part of the connnection, but not by shape of the casting steel parts. Also the load-displacement relationships can be approximated by the analysis assuming tri-linear load-displacement relationships for the cast steel part, the steel tube, and split tee.

To exaine the earthquake resistance behavior of lattice frame-light weight concrete wall panels, nine panel specimens of different forms were tested under axial and reversal horizontal loading. Initiation of cracks, degradation of rigidity and failure mode were observed. In this paper, load bearing capacity and deformation of panels are compared with those of reinforced concrete frame, and those of brick masonry. Simple analysis of direct stiffness method which predict the stiffness and strength of specimens under axial loading and shear loading are applied to these test specimens. Based on the test results and theoretical analysis, practical formulae are proposed to provide a reliable basis for design. Test results show that the latticed frame and light weight concrete wall panels have good the earthquake resistance behavior.

For clarifying the relation between the incident heat flux to fuels and burning rate of fuels in ventilation controlled fires, small scale model fire tests were conducted using methanol, PMMA, and wood as the fuels. Incident heat flux was measured at the ceiling and the floor of compartment. As the results of this study, in ventilation controlled fires it is found that incident heat flux is proportional to AH^<1/2>/A_F and that in case of methanol and PMMA fires, the burning rate m_P, can be estimated by m_P≒q_FA_F/L_V, and in case of wood, by m_P≒1/4(q_FA_P/L_V), where q_F A_F and L_V are incident heat flux to the ceiling of compartment, fuel surface and latent heat of evaporation or gasification.

In former paper(Part 1), a new method to presume temperatures in the concrete with lignin sulfonic acid admixture suffered from fire was proposed by using the method of ultraviolet absorption spectra(UV spectra). In this paper(Part 2), the validity of this presumption method was verified by fire tests and the method was applied to an actual fire. The influence of burning exhaust on the method was scarcely recognized. And moreover, for the concrete with naphtaline sulfonic acid admixture, its heated temperatures were presumed by the methods of UV spectra and quantative analysis.

The purpose of this study is to provide human pelception data for medium and minor earthquake motions in base-isolated buildings. Results in this study are suggested to be used in Limit State Design for medium and minor earthquakes. Surveys were carried out for 14 base-isolated buildings in Kwanto area. The data in this survey are response to some questionnaires by residents and measured acceleration records. The mean of human perception limit against earthquake is found to be 3.65 cm/s^2, and the coefficient of variation is 80%, provided that the logarithmic normal distribution is assumed for the distribution of sentience ratio defined in this paper.

This report proposes a practical design method controlled by the story displacement (Rm) considering axial displacement of columns for plane elastic steel frame. This method uses neural network and Nakamura-Kosaka's theory. Nakamura-Kosaka's theory can obtain member stiffness and sections by using member-end strain. Member-end strain can be explained by the story displacement (Rs) unconsidering axial displacement of columns. If the relation between Rm and Rs can be found, member sections satisfied aiming story displacement can be easily obtained by Nakamura-Kosaka's theory. This reports proposes a reasoning system that reasons Rs for aiming Rm by neural network, calculates member-end strains by reasoned Rs and then calculates member sections by Nakamura-Kosaka's theory.
