This paper introduces structural characteristics of tensegric truss structures and details of tensegric truss arch structure. The tensegric structure is characterized in the reduction of weight, the simplification of joint, the control of stress and displacement by prestress, the rationalization of construction procedure, and the expression of transparency. The tensegric truss structure (unit system), which is one of the forms of tensegric structures, aims to apply tensegrity to practical structures. This structure is classified into three types (Type I〜III), according to the arrangements and resisting mechanism of tension members (strings). In this paper, on tensegric truss arch (Type I), numerical analysis and modeling tests were carried out in order to obtain basic structural characteristics, effects of prestressing on stiffness and strength, and the method for applying prestress (PS).
