In this study, we measured combined water of hydration, relative humidity and autogenous shrinkage of cement pastes which were made from various water-cement ratio in order to make it clear the mechanism of autogenous shrinkage of cementitious materials. Relative humidity in hardened cement paste might be determined by the water-void ratio despite of water-cement ratio, and was linearly related with the autogenous shrinkage for the age after about 1 day. This correlation can not be explained by the capirary pressure, but can be explained by change of chemical potential that can be represented as a logarithmic function of relative humidity.

The adiabatic temperature rise of concrete was numerically simulated, which was the typical exotheric phenomenon of concrete. First, the degree of cement hydration was predicted using the mathematical model for the hydration of cement and the formation of microstructure. Next, the heat of cement hydration was calculated with its degree of hydration. Finally, the concrete temperature under the adiabatic condition was predicted by simulating the heat conduction in the concrete cell modeled with an aggregate and cement paste around it. The simulation accuracy was discussed by comparing with the experimental adiabatic temperature rise of, concrete. It was found that the simulation in this study was useful for predicting the exotheric phenomenon of concrete.

Resently many high rise buldings are constructed and materials of those buldings have high strength. We use enclosed arc welding to joints of high strength steel bars. When tensile are aplied those joints, fracture occurs at the bonds of welded joints frequently. This report proposes suitable chemical composition of steel bars and welding technique to prevent fracture of bonds. Results are as follows. "Ceq=C+Mn/6+Si/24≦0.47%" With improvement of welding technique showed in this report. Results are as follows. "Ceq=C+Mn/6+Si/24≦0.51%" Within above mentioned requirements, fracture of bonds of welded joint is prevented. When welded joints of steel bars in bulding construction are used, it is necessary to take Ceq of mill steels into consideration.

A protective layer for a roof membrane has a potential of drainage delaying from a roof at heavy rain, due to water retentivity in the layer. First, drainage profiles at heavy rain were investigated for four kind of protective layers such as concrete, gravel, sand and soil. Good performance in drainage delay was observed for the latter two layers. It is considered that drainage delay was mainly affected by the capacity of water retention of a protective layer and moving characteristics of rainwater in and on it. Finally, the drainage delay was evaluated by numerical simulation based on the kinematic wave method for some protective layers.

Frequently, we can recognize differences of measurements of stairs such as differences of treads width and rises height. These stairs are supposed very dangerous at the time going up and down. In this paper, auther discuss the lack of safety caused by differences of measurements as follows. Human beings can notice differences of measurements of stairs in spite of small differences and human beings feel the lack of safety in proportion to the amount of the differences of measurements. Allowable differences of measurements of stairs are about 1.6cm in case of tread and 0.6cm in case of rises under the conditions of this study.

Evaluating macro-spatial correlation of seismic ground motion for wide area is very important for earthquake damage prediction and portfolio analysis in which simultaneous damage in different sites has to be taken into consideration. In this study, focused on is the residual value between observed and predicted ground motion. The spatial correlation of the residual value is modeled assuming that the correlation depends only on the relative distance between two sites. The strong motion records of the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake are used for this analysis since very high-dense observation has been made throughout the Taiwan Island. As the result, the correlation length which represents the spatial correlation structure of the residual value is found about 14-30km for this particular earthquake event.

Observation of the damage induced by earthquakes indicates that buildings suffered severer damage in certain specific parts and collapsed in one story. This damage concentration is not preferable from the view point of seismic safety of buildings. Therefore, the weak-beam-strong-column concept is introduced to seismic design in order to avoid single story collapse. This design concept is due to the design basis relying on the ductility of the structure in case of severe earthquake ground motions. Therefore many seismic codes in the world adopt a structural characteristic factor that is to reduce seismic design forces considering an energy absorbing capacity of a structure. This paper discusses the extreme of the structural characteristic factor for different types of collapse mechanism.

Empirical relations of the effective stress on the asperity to the fault type and the depth were examined for more accurate prediction of strong ground motions from a future earthquake. The existing spectrum inversion results showed that the level of the acceleration source spectrum in a short period range, called short period level in this paper, varied several hundred percent as a function of the fault type (inland earthquake, subduction earthquake, and slab earthquake) and 10 percent as a function of the focal depth. The effective stress on the asperity, inferred from the short period level, had the same feature as the short period level. The existing variable-slip rupture models showed that the effective stress on the subfaults in the asperity varied several hundred percent as a function of the fault type (strike slip fault with a surface rupture, reverse fault with a buried rupture, and oblique slip fault with a buried rupture) and 10 to 30 percent as a function of the depth of the subfault.

For the purpose of accurately predicting the seismic response of an isolated building, an analytical model for seismic isolation devices with hysteretic damping is proposed. The proposed model is capable of well-predicting the force-displacement relationships of various different types of devices, high-damping rubber bearings, lead-rubber bearings, and two types of steel dampers. Seismic response analyses are conducted to study the effectiveness of both existing models and the proposed model. The responses given by the existing models are mostly conservative. This fact indicates that the proposed model can be used to evaluate the performance of isolation devices accurately and effectively.

We proposed a simplified method to evaluate strong ground motions response spectra at ground surface considering the inelastic amplification characteristics of surface layers. We assume that input motions on the engineering bedrock are given by the reviesed Enforcement Order of the Building Standard Law of Japaa This method is far simple and easy to calculate compared to the limit strength method in the revised Building Standard Law of Japan, because this method requires only the 30m depth soil layer data from the surface and substitution from these data to several equations. Despite of simplicity, this method predicts the results of equivalent elastic earthquake response analyses more adequately than the limit strength method in the revised Building Standard Law of Japan.

Investigation on circular hole void slab is executed to reduce the slab weight, in which cylindrical steel pipes or other materials are embedded in the center part of cross section in one direction. In my previous paper, the characteristics of the bending rigidity of the void slab and stress concentrations were confirmed and clarified by direct numerical method. This paper shows firstly that this ortho-tropic slab can be analytically treated as an isotropic slab. Subsequently, the differences of characteristics of elasticity, such as the vertical displacement, by the existence of the hole are described.

In this paper, an analytical study using the nonlinear element method was carried out for the reinforced concrete shear wall tests under cyclic loading to estimate the damage to the structure from the aspect of energy consumption. First, the validity of the analytical method was confirmed by the load-displacement relationship, the condition of the cracking and the comparison between the total strain energy of the analysis and the loaded energy of the test. Next, the distribution of the energy consumption was investigated, and the division between re-bar and concrete was also studied. It was pointed out that the energy consumption is an effective index to estimate the damage condition of these shear walls.

The model test using aluminum rod layer instead of soil is useful to examine 2-dimensional basic behavior of sandy soil. Meanwhile, visual equipments concerned personal computers have been exceedingly developed, and high-precise images can be. photographed by ordinary digital camera. The purpose of this study is to develop a measurement system for behavior of the aluminum rod layer. Feature of this method is to extract a lot of marking points by the differences in digital values of pixels. The behavior of model ground is analyzed by tracking of those points from sequence captured images. In this paper, the method of the image measurement is explained and technical skills for improvement precision are considered. Furthermore, model test is performed in order to discuss the appropriateness of the method.

Flexural crack width of reinforced concrete member under sustained loading increases with the increase of rebar strain and shrinkage of concrete between cracks. Rebar strain increases because of creep of concrete on the compression side and creep of bond action between the bars and concrete. Although rebar stress increasing due to creep of concrete is already clarified, the influence of shrinkage and bond creep on the crack width is not elucidated Based on the bond theory, influence of shrinkage and bond creep on the crack width increasing was investigated in this paper. Equation to calculate crack width under long-term loading was derived Calculation values of crack width by the derived equation approximately agreed with the experimental values for the previous experiment.

In order to examine the dynamic behavior under the strong earthquake and acquire basic data on the earthquake performance, full-scale real time shaking table test of reinforced concrete structure was carried out. The specimen is assumed to be a part of middle-rise frame. The maximum level shaking table excitation reaches a level which makes specimens collapse. The major parameter of specimens is the difference of materials. One specimen is made of the usual strength material, and another is made of the high-strength material. In the shaking table test, most of the input energy to the experiment system was absorbed by the hysteretic behavior of the specimen. The maximum strain rate of the reinforcing bars reached around 70(%/s). It was observed at the instant on which reinforcing bars experienced the first yielding in the ultimate excitation. The static experiment was carried out under the condition of giving the displacement hysteresis equal to the displacement hysteresis in shaking table test. Load-deformation relationships obtained in the shaking table test and that obtained in the quasistatic load testing showed the good agreement. The rise of the strength due to the effect of strain rate in the shaking table test was about 10%.

This paper examines the slip behavior of the friction type high strength bolted connections with base plate material plasticity by cyclic loading and monotonic loading. The loading experiment which made the number of bolts and base plate thickness is conducted. As a result, after the base plate plasticity has made reference about the number of bolts for a main slip not occurring to a base plate fracture. And the simply model for the decrease of bolt axial force and base plate existence stress are made by the experimental results. The slip strength of joint is presumed using this model.

Recently, high strength steel and cold-formed steel are used on structural members, which have poor capacity for plastic strain. So there is a possibility that deformation capacity at the beam end is limited by not local buckling but brittle fracture. Because brittle fracture is brought on ductile crack, saving the occurrence of it lead to preventing brittle fracture. Purposes of this paper are to understand the initiation of ductile crack at the-notch tip by experiment, and to clarify the distribution of stress and strain at the notch section by FEM analysis. As a result, the criterion for ductile crack initiation is proposed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate analytically, using the energy method, the elastic buckling strength of a web plate. The existence of shear forces essentially requires nonuniform bending moment distribution in the longitudinal direction. So the true strength of web plate must be discussed under these combined loading conditions. As the results, it is shown that there is the aspect ratio limit of which the buckling strength is estimated for pure shear buckling strength. This bound are related to the shear stress ratio to bending stress. Finally, the approximation formula for buckling strength evaluation is proposed.

This study is an investigation for the buckling behavior of alminium alloy sandwich panel under compression. Five series of specimens are selected. And these are grouped into three classes such as adhesive, brazed and urethane panels Test results are compared with analytical buckling curve in view point of maximum stress. And it is shown that test results agree well with prediction by the buckling curve.

The hydroelastic analysis of large floating structures with arbitrary shape has been formulated by wet mode superposition approach using BE-FE hybrid model. In our previous paper, boundary integrals are calculated numerically by Gaussian quadrature for both BEs with and without singularities. In this paper, emphasis is placed on the explicit treatment of singularities in quadratic elements using subelement method for BEs with singularities. The analytical results are compared with previous results with respect to diagonal elements of [G] and [H] in the formulation, wet mode frequencies in the fluid-coupled free vibration analysis, and wave pressure distribution and elastic deformation in the hydroelastic response analysis. It is concluded that the explicit treatment of singular integral is essential for evaluating the local distribution of hydrodynamic pressures acting on large floating structures, although it has a small effect on the global hydroelastic responses.
