Recently, the amount of the exhaust of fly ash increases by increasing thermal power plant. Using it as a concrete mixture material is an effective method for decreasing waste. However, the influence on the hydration of the cement and reaction rate of fly ash is not examined in detail. Then, the cement paste that mixed fly ash examined it by Backscattered Electron image and element image measured by Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis in this research. As a result, reaction rate of fly ash and distribution of fly ash and cement in the fly ash-cement pastes were clarified. And the amount of composition in fly ash cement paste was cleared.

The elastic properties of concrete depend on the characteristic of cement matrix and coarse aggregates. The elastic characteristic of cement matrix depends on the cement paste when the properties of the fine aggregate are constant. That is, clarifying the characteristic of the cement matrix clarifies the elastic properties of concrete. Therefore, the technique for predicting the elastic modulus of the cement paste from the viewpoint of microstructure was examined in this research. It classified into four phases (pore, C-S-H, calcium hydroxide, and unhydrated cement) in the backscattered electron image, and examined it by the finite element method in two dimension. The result indicates the elastic modulus of hardened cement paste strongly depends on the porosity of large pores. Moreover, it is cleared that the elastic modulus hardly changes by differences of the number of pixels and the magnification of images in this study.

The JIS A 1119, testing method of differences in mortar and coarse aggregate content in concrete mixed with a concrete mixer, has been used as a mixing performance test of mixers. In this paper, applicability of JIS A-1119 to high-strength and high-fluidity concretes is examined taking into account other mixing performance tests such as JIS A 5308 and JIS A 8603. High-strength and high-fluidity concretes, with various cement types and water-cement ratios, were mixed with a full-scale mixer under summer, normal and winter conditions. Differences in unit mass of mortar and unit coarse aggregate content in the concrete were examined and the compatibility with specified values of JIS A 8603 was studied. As a result, it was found that JIS A 5308 can be applicable to high-strength and high-fluidity concretes and compatible to the specified values of JIS A 8603.

In this paper, the effects of the lighting irradiation angle and the observation distance on the visual evaluation of building stone finishing were investigated. The factors affecting the visual evaluation such as unevenness, comfort of stone surface were analyzed by performing the sensory test using the natural sandstone specimen which were changing the stone type, surface finishing method and surface pattern. In the sensory test, lighting irradiation angle (θ) for the stone surface and the observation distance (L) were changed, and the relationships between θ, L and the sensory values were considered. It was cleared that the visual evaluation of unevenness became smaller with increasing distance under 15, 30 degrees of lighting irradiation angle, and the evaluation of smooth surface dose not change with the observation distance.

A novel Internet online hybrid test system using socket communication and distributed computation techniques is developed. In the system, the simulated structure is divided into multiple substructures, and each substructure is analyzed or tested as a subsystem. The equations of motion are not formulated for the entire structure but for each substructure separately. A special program named "Coordinator" equipped with a special iterative algorithm is developed to achieve the equilibrium and compatibility at the boundaries among the substructures. A series of demonstration tests applied to a base-isolated structure are conducted successfully, proving that the developed system has enhanced flexibility in substructuring without losing the accuracy.

Story damage evolution of multistory buildings is tracked during earthquake ground motions. Recursive least squares method is used to identify the evolution of multiple natural frequencies due to seismic damage using on-line data processing. To avoid excessive deviations from true values in the tracking process, initial conditions estimated by microtremor measurements are used and forgetting factors are selected appropriately. The evolution of multiple natural frequencies is converted to the evolution of stiffness reduction of each story using sensitivity equations associated with modal strain energy in the undamaged state. The recursive identification scheme is applied to response data that have been obtained in a series of shaking table tests of a three story steel frame with cement composite devices. The identified results are compared with the successive application of ARX model using off-line data processing. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between minimum and final instantaneous stiffness of each story during eqrthquakes.

This paper describes the equivalent linearization method considering strength reduction of brittle elements. The following facts are found by numerical investigation employed time-domain response analyses. The maximum response of the weak story where strength of brittle element is lost is well approximated by the model whose brittle element in weak story is removed in advance. While the maximum responses of the stories where strength of brittle elements are not lost, arise typically before strength of brittle element of weak story has been lost. In the evaluation by equivalent linearization method, both responses, which correspond above-mentioned two states, are evaluated, and greater responses of two states are adopted as final results. Numerical validations are conducted not only for single-story collapse model but also multi-story collapse model. The results of proposed method well agree with time-domain analyses in both cases.

When a tall seismic isolated building is suffering a big earthquake, large tensile forces may occur at the multi-layer rubber bearings due to the large overturning moment. Tensile stress is critical design problem for such rubber bearings. To avoid such large tensile forces at the bearings, the design idea allowing uplifting at bearings may be preferable for the tall seismic isolated buildings. However, very few studies have made about the nonlinear behaviours of such seismic isolated buildings considering the foundation vertical stiffness. The shaking table test is carried out to investigate the nonlinear dynamic response of seismic isolated buildings that allow the uplifting around the rubber bearings, considering the vertical elastic stiffness of the foundation. From the results getting from the tests, the effect of seismic isolation would be guaranteed even if some bearings step up during earthquakes.

Strain-dependent shear moduli and damping factors of surface soils at K-NET and JMA stations in Ojiya are estimated not only from cyclic torsional shear tests on undisturbed samples obtained at the sites but also from back-calculation of transfer function of the strong motion records between either of the two sites and a nearby rock outcrop site. Both laboratory test and back-calculation of strong motion records indicate that the near-surface peat at K-NET shows weaker nonlinearity than the near-surface silt at JMA, which might have had strong effects on the observed ground motions including those in the Mid Niigata Prefecture Earthquake in 2004 at the two sites.

To estimate the shape of a basin-bedrock interface, an inversion procedure applying a genetic algorithm (GA) based on H/V spectra was formulated for long-period (1 to 10 seconds) microtremors. Numerical experiments of inversion were performed on 2D basin structure models. Using FEM, HV spectra at sediment observation points were calculated using incident Rayleigh waves defined on an outcrop. To determine the depth of the basin-bedrock interface efficiently with high resolution, the basin region was split into grid-size hierarchical models and several horizontal submodels. By incorporating these techniques into GA, efficient and accurate optimal solutions could be found.

For a tapered pile of which the top cross section is greater than the bottom cross section, an increase in the side resistance can be expected when the pile is pressed into cohesive and/or cohesionless soils from the ground surface. This paper presents a theoretical method for the analysis of the vertical response of the tapered pile being pressed into the ground. The method considers two ultimate resistances, the side friction and point bearing capacity of the pile. In this method, the finite cavity expansion theory is used to model an increase of the side resistance due to the radial ground expansion, and the theory of the second ultimate point bearing capacity proposed by Takano (1981) is applied for the point resistance. The limited parametric studies are made for the tapered piles and uniform cross-sectional piles, i.e. the straight piles. From the studies, it is found out that the tapered pile has the advantage of the straight pile in the vertical response.

This paper treats the buckling experiment of single layer two-way grid dome with PC bars as diagonal member s. PC bars are used to stiffen the in-plane rigidity of two way grid. The introducing initial axial force to PC bars, the central loading, and the asymmetrical loading are performed in order to investigate the effect of initial axial force of PC bars on the buckling behavior of single layer two-way grid domes. The specified value of initial axial force is introduced to PC bars. The rigidity and the buckling load of these domes are increased by the effect of the initial axial force of PC bars. Moreover, buckling behavior of experimental results is compared with the numerical results. The validity of the numeric al method used in this study is shown.

The main objective of this paper is the discussion about the pull-out strength of the cotter pin joints at tenon connection with wooden peg. In general, the tenon of Japanese traditional connection is constructed by the full tenon jointing and reinforced with the cotter pin. In this study, the failure properties and the pull-out strength by the driving position of the cotter pin were examined. There are three failure patterns in the tenon connection by the driving position of the cotter pin in the sill. It is a splitting failure of the sill, a shear failure of the tenon, and a shear failure of the cotter pin. The estimate of ultimate strength of the cotter pin connection can be predicted by the equation proposed in this paper.

To clear the static and dynamic hysteresis characteristics of wood-framed residential structures, shaking table tests and static loading tests using various walls which composes wooden house, and full-scale shaking table test and static loading test on the same plan. Comparing the load-deformation relation of the full-scale tests, the dynamic test exceeded the static test in the load at the same deformation angle, and the dynamic test showed 119%-123% of the static test until 1/200rad on the 1st floor. The load-carrying capacity, which was estimated by summing of static hysteresis characteristics in walls, was checked with the result of the full-scale dynamic test. By summing all wall elements, which were thought as the surplus force, the stiffness was estimated in about 90% of precision until 1/75rad. but the maximum load and toughness weren't evaluated in the larger deformed range. As for the sharing rate of the horizontal-force of braces of the full-scale tests, it was about 20-50% in the static test and about 30-45% in the dynamic test. It's considered that the effect of wall elements except braces worked in the dynamic tests more than the static tests.

In order to study what amount of lateral force and varied axial force are carried by the wall frame in reinforce concrete buildings with multi-story shear wall and how the rigidity at the bottom of the wall frame affect the amount of them, a pseudo-dynamic test with 2-span-1-bay-6-story reinforced concrete structure with a multi-story shear wall was conducted with the parameter of the rigidity at the bottom of the wall frame. In this paper, the test results were discussed with the numerically calculated strengths in terms of the varied axial force borne by the wall frame. They were found that both column in open frame and side column of shear wall bear varied compression force proportional to their geometrically supporting area. The varied tensile force borne by the side column of shear wall was determined by the flexural strength of transverse ground beams for the rocking specimen, and by the tensile yielding strength of the side column of the shear wall for the rigid specimen. The remaining varied tensile force was borne by the open frames.

Polyacetal-fiber (PAF) has high tensile strain capacity with approximately linear stress-strain relationship. Seismic response of concrete columns reinforced by PAF filaments as internal reinforcements was investigated experimentally. 5 columns were tested under statically applied lateral load reversals with a constant axial load. The shear capacity due to bond failure for columns was modeled by the truss and arch analogy based on the theory of plasticity. Meanwhile a prediction formula for the ductility of columns was proposed by a modification of previously reported formula. Then the experimental results were found to be in good agreement with the predicted values.

This paper reports the results of an experimental study on the structural performance of beam-column joints composed of ultra-high-strength concrete (cast-in-place or precast) with a compressive strength of more than 100N/mm^2 and longitudinal beam reinforcement with a yield strength of 685N/mm^2. A total of ten specimens were used, and joint configuration, column concrete strength and amount of longitudinal beam reinforcement were used as parameters. The study has revealed that the shear strength of beam-column joints and the bond strength of longitudinal beam reinforcement can be evaluated by using evaluation formulas currently in use. This paper also proposes a method for evaluating shear crack width in the serviceability limit state developed by examining the test results.

In order to investigate splitting bond strength of the deformed longitudinal reinforcing bars in the R/C columns strengthened laterally with the external PC rods, a total of 52 sets of test re-bars with and without active confining force given by the external PC rods are pulled monotonically until failure. Test results indicate that the bond strength becomes higher with the increase in number of PC rod sets and their initial stress magnitude. This is due to the active confining force given by the PC rods, and passive confining forces given by the PC rods and transverse reinforcements, in which the passive confinement effect varies depending on the magnitude of active confining force. An equation to estimate the splitting bond strengths for the R/C columns strengthened laterally with the external PC rods is developed based on the test results of the present study.

Seismic performance of steel structure is based on the energy absorption capacity of structural members. Energy absorption capacity of steel member is determined by cumulative plastic strain. Therefore, it is important to evaluate how the steel member and material are related respectively on the plastic deformation capacity. In this study, the numerical analysis on beams and beam-columns was carried out. The analytical parameters were the lengths of members, material properties, axial force ratios, and cyclic loading types. The stress-strain relationship on the node of member was evaluated by plastic deformation capacity, accompanied with hysteretic behavior of member. The results showed that the reasonable relation between material and member on plastic deformation capacity under hysteretic behavior could be explained by the energy absorption capacity.

New beam-end connections, designed to limit seismic damage to specific connection elements placed at the bottom flange of beam-ends, was proposed in the previous paper. This paper addresses the effects of shear-transfer-mechanism at the beam-end, specially the connection elements at the top flange. Four cyclic loading tests were carried out to investigate the shear-transfer-mechanism. It was found that the shear-transfer from beam-web to connection element was eased by the presence of rib-plate on the connection element at the top flange. On the other hand, shear-transfer was concentrated on the beam-end due to the absence of rib-plate. The concentration of shear-transfer caused out-of-plane deformation of top beam-flange and the decrease of plastic deformation of the specific connection element.

Cumulative deformation capacity is one of the most important benchmark for the performances of elasto-plastic dampers within vibration-controlled buildings built in seismic area, because this value is considered to be related deeply to the cumulative energy dissipation capacity and validity life of the dampers. However, estimating this value is not easy because they are affected by loading histories. Following the previous study proposing simple prediction equations, relationship between required parameters and structures' characteristics are discussed in this paper, and easy estimation methods for cumulative deformation capacities and energy dissipation capacites of buckling-restrained braces which will not require time-history analyses are proposed, and their accuracies are discussed.

This paper investigates limit deformation of the panel zone within steel beam to concrete filled steel tube (CFT) column moment connections to assess their deformation capacity. Limit deformation is defined by the deformation at which the shear force was reduced to 95% of maximum load. This investigation is based on a database including parameters such as width (radius)-thickness ratio of steel tube, material strengths, aspect ratio, and axial compression ratio from previous test results. The limit deformation corresponds to the axial compression ratio. The prediction from multiple regression formulas, which involve the axial compression ratio as a main factor, almost agree with test results on limit deformation.

Experimental studies were undertaken to determine the mechanical properties of ultra-high strength concrete (water-binder ratio from 15% to 25%) after heating. The following conclusions were obtained. 1) The stress-strain curve after heating is S-shaped with a gradual inclination over 300℃. 2) After heating to over 200℃, Young's modulus decreases rapidly, as does compression strength after heating to over 300℃. 3) Variation of water-binder ratio from 15% to 25% has little effect on the residual values of compressive strength and Young's modulus of the ultra-high strength concrete after heating although the values are influenced to some degree by variations in cement and aggregate. But, the recovery of compressive strength and Young's modulus after two years is negligible compared with normal concrete of high water-binder ratio (60%, 70%).

Various organizations have deployed seismometer networks to gather the earthquake information. However, some ground motion records are sometimes missed because of electric power failure etc. This study proposes the estimation method of JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) instrumental seismic intensity using neighboring ground motion records. First, the response spectra with 5% damping were estimated using the Fourier spectrum ratios between two neighboring seismic observation stations. Then, the peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the peak ground velocity (PGV) were calculated through the spectrum intensity. Finally, using the estimated PGA and PGV, the JMA instrumental seismic intensity was obtained.
