High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite (HPFRCC) shows Pseudo Strain Hardening Behavior (PSH behavior) under tension stress, which is the most remarkable characteristics of HPFRCC. In this Paper, the fiber types, fiber volume fraction, fiber length and matrix water/cement ratio are focused on as factors influence to the PSH behavior. The degree of the impact of each factor is tested including the relevance with its workability. The influence of the cyclic loading history on PSH behavior is also tested assuming the application to the structural elements under the seismic force. Based on the test results, appropriate fiber volume fraction, fiber length and water/cement ratio to each fiber type are proposed, considering the relevance between mechanical characteristics and workability. In case when HPFRCC is under the tension-compression cyclic loading history, the PSH behavior shows the same characteristics as that under the monotonic tension in one direction.

The experiment to observe cracks in self-leveling material constructed on floor groundworks made from various kinds of concrete was carried. As a result, following basic findings were obtained. The observation of cracks should be continued until an increase in width of cracks stop, without constructing any finishing material. The degree of cracks may be indicated quantitatively by the product of length and width. Cracks and separation is not be influenced by specimen size, etc. Based on these findings, the method of predicting cracks by evaluating surface layer quality of floor groundwork will be established.

It is important that we know the soil amplification characteristics in every local area for structural design. The sheaf-wave velocity structures of lots of areas have been released in recent years by K-NET, and KiK-net. It has become possible to propose a new soil amplification function by combining past research results with new analytical knowledge. In the thesis, we propose a new deep soil amplification function for the decision of the energy spectrum for structural design, using multi-reflection theory. The function represents the soil amplification characteristic of each local area, and considers the variation of soil information.

Concerning the wind resistant problems and environmental problems for buildings and structures, we have to consider the effect of turbulence characteristics. Therefore, it is important to give a velocity profile and turbulence intensity similar to natural wind to the approaching flow conditions for numerical simulations as well as wind tunnel experiments. So, we proposed a method of generating turbulent boundary layer on the preceding paper. In this study, we carry out direct numerical simulation (DNS) and wind tunnel test of the flow and pressure around a 3D square cylinder for three types of approaching flow (uniform flow and two turbulent boundary layers), and we compare the flows and aerodynamic characteristics obtained by DNS with those by the wind tunnel test. Especially, we pursue the turbulence effects on the fluctuating components of pressure on a 3D square cylinder, even for the fluctuating pressure spectra and correlation.

This paper for the first time provides a unified rule that effectively represents hysteretic behavior of various passive control systems as well as dampers used therein. Degrees of freedom of the system are reduced to two, by conducting twice the static analysis of the frame without dampers. A simplified spring model of two degrees of freedom is then constructed by matching its behavior exactly with the original control system. The spring model is extremely useful for efficient time history analysis, and it also provides a new and important tool to evaluate the control effectiveness of different systems on a common scale.

System identification way is essentially important to examine physical properties of vibrating structure against seismic disturbance. Present study is concerned with adaptive system identification procedure standing dual for adaptive control method in an algorithmic construction. Strong motion indices are analyzed on relevance to damage of two-story wooden structures. After nonlinear time history analyses of models with various stiffnesses for nine hundred input motions, a rank correlation coefficient are evaluated with respect to the relevance between intensity of an index and structural damage defined by a certain threshold of maximum story drift. It is clarified that the responses of linear single-degree-of-freedom systems with a particular elongated period and 20% damping ratio show fairly good correlation with the damages. It is observed that specific combinations of stiffnesses tend to disperse the damage, and consequently reduce the relevance.

In this paper, first we analyzed vibration characteristics measured by microtremors and aftershocks for RC and wooden buildings in Fukuoka City and grasped the resonant periods of buildings. Next, stiffnesses of the buildings are inverted from these resonant periods together with design documents. Then we construct nonlinear seismic response models of these buildings based on the numerical schemes already proposed for RC and wooden buildings (Nagato and Kawase, 2000). Finally we conduct damage evaluation for these buildings by strong ground motions observed during the west off Fukuoka earthquake of 2005 to reproduce observed phenomena.

In Japan, almost all the earthquake casualty occurs inside wooden houses damaged. For decreasing the casualties due to damaged wooden houses, the precise estimation method is indispensable. Combining the data on damaged buildings surveyed in the field of earthquake engineering and the data on death bodies inspected in the field of disaster medicine in the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake, we found that earthquake casualties have close relation not only to the damage degree of their houses but also to the building damage ratio around the dwelling area. We proposed the death rate function with the parameters of them in order to precisely estimate casualties per house. Proposed functions are also applicable for the effective seismic reinforcement plan for the house to decrease the casualties in the municipality or governmental unit.

This paper shows two methods of evaluating earthquake responses for RC wall-frame buildings to improve the capacity spectrum method used in the Calculation of Response and Limit Strength provided in the Building Standard Law Enforcement Order of Japan. One is a method of redistributing the representative shear in an equivalent SDOF system reduced from the wall-frame building to the first mode components of the story shears contributed by the shear walls and frames, and the other is a method of evaluating the higher mode components of the story shears. Time history earthquake response analysis and pushover analysis for four types of 12 story RC wall-frame building which have the different wall arrangement are executed to examine the prediction accuracy of earthquake responses by the proposed methods. Good agreements between the results of the proposed methods and the earthquake response analysis are obtained in the story shears contributed by the shear walls and frames.

This paper describes results of shaking table tests on ultimate behavior of high aspect ratio base-isolated buildings. In the tests, a base-isolated structure model weighing 192kN supported by 4 laminated rubber bearings was used. The aspect ratio of superstructure (4 or 6), and shape and axial stress of a laminated rubber bearing were set for experimental parameter. The results of tests indicate that the ultimate behavior of base-isolated buildings are roughly classified into two types; one is caused by buckling fracture of rubber bearings and the other is caused by tensile fracture of rubber bearings. These types are dependent on relationship between lateral restoring characteristics of base-isolated story and static ultimate lateral force by uplift of superstructure.

The structural damage identification analysis of structure models were performed by filtering algorithms as a frame work of inverse problem. In this study, three kinds of filtering algorithm based on the Wiener filter, the projection filter and the parametric projection filter were employed to detect the structural damage of a five-story frame model defined by the reduction of lateral stiffness. Natural frequencies corresponding to each eigen-mode measured by the experimental modal analysis are effectively used as the observation data characterized by the change of structural stiffness. The notable characteristics of each filtering algorithm in applying the structural damage identification analysis are made clear through several numerical calculations.

Damping and inelastic deformation are effective in reducing the resonance response of building structures. However, their effects may be very limited for specific vibration periods at specific ground motions. Moreover, damping effects may be greatly different for acceleration and displacement responses as in inelastic system. This research firstly discusses the prediction accuracy of damping effective factors, a major design index in Japanese building design. Then propose a new factor based on the real damping effects reflected as the variation in response spectra. This new damping effective factor is used for predicting the inelastic response. For this purpose, a large part of works is focused on constructing a new equivalent linearization model based on a drifted hysteric loop, including comparison with other popular methods.

This paper presents a method for a numerical analysis of free vibration behavior of ultra thin spiral shell panel with a spiral axis, using finite element method with a isoparametric element; together with some numerical results. The method is based on accurate strain-displacement relationships in finite displacement theory, using a spiral coordinate system. Numerical results are compared with those in the literature, and those obtained by isoparametric shell element method, etc. The comparison shows the method presented in this paper is useful for analyzing free vibration of ultra thin spiral shell.

This paper shows that the lateral resistant performance and the fracture characteristic of Japanese traditional mud walls can be predicted based on their lateral load carrying mechanism, a hypothesis founded by the authors. Our previous research has verified through the loading experiments for various mud wall segments that the resistant force of mud walls should be caused by the four principal mechanical factors. Using the performance of these mechanical factors, this paper tried to propose the equations to predict initial stiffness and maximum bearing capacity of mud walls with 1P or 2P width (1P equals to 91cm) and also how to judge if any shear crack fracture will occur in these walls. The lateral loading experimental results of the mud walls agreed well with the predicted ones and thus the validity of the hypothetic mechanism and the usefulness of the performance prediction method were shown.

This study paid its attention to vibration observation at the actual place as the way that we could investigate a structural characteristic of cultural assets building quickly.We performed vibration test of a frame model of traditional shrines and temples building and added examination. The results from the examination are as follows. (1) we have clarified the following the behavior of the frame after a shock precisely by sampling the data with high frequencies. (2) we have verified the effectiveness of the multiple points observation system.

The summational rule in dynamic properties was verified by using the results of static and dynamic tests on 4 single elements of walls and 3 combination walls of those elements. In comparison between the sum of the load on the single wall elements and the load on the combination walls, the following trends were ascertained in any combinations. When the displacement of the walls was small, the sum of the load on the elements was a little higher than the one on the combination walls. As the displacement became larger, it gradually became lower than the combinations. When the displacement became large enough, it went beyond the combinations again, hi the case of the combination wall with gypsum board and brace, the maximum load and the displacement at the maximum load were larger than the sum of the elements, because the gypsum board prevented the buckling of the brace. Moreover, as the characteristics of the Bi-linear models, the dynamic test results of the combination walls was more than the sum of the static test results of the elements. Analyzing the seismic response with the combination walls that were parallel models of the elements, no fixed trend was found and it didn't always tend to be the same as the analysis with the single elements.

This paper presents the results of a lateral shear performance of the earth-wall which is used in "Kyomachiya"(a traditional type town house in Kyoto), and the evaluation method of the stiffness and strength. Keeping the typical module of "Kyomachiya", with 60mm thickness and 980mm column-to-column span, two types of specimens differed in total span of one or two were subjected under cyclic loading. And the structural model of a timber frame was constructed using the theory of a beam on elastic foundation. According to this newly formulated model, the stiffness and strength of an earth-wall in "Kyomachiya" can be evaluated simply.

Experiments on long-term compressive properties of reinforced concrete columns using high strength concrete were carried out. Compressive creep behavior of concrete with compressive strength of 30N/mm^2 to 180N/mm^2 was studied by examining these tests and others conducted before. The compressive creep model of CEB-FIP model code 1990 was modified by changing the coefficient of β (fcm), which expresses the influence of compressive strength on ultimate creep factor. By using this modified model, compressive creep can be predicted properly for normal strength to high strength concrete successively.

This paper mainly discusses seismic performances of specially designed unreinforced masonry (URM) structures. Firstly, lateral force resisting mechanisms of masonry in filled frames were introduced through test results of concrete block in filled reinforced concrete frames with and without a door opening. Based on major findings from the tests, a method to enhance seismic performances of URM structures using interlocking masonry units was proposed. Two new URM walls consisting of brittle and ductile interlocking masonry units were tested and their performances were compared with that of a conventional one. Seismic performances of URM walls could be effectively improved by interlocking masonry units.
