This paper reports on the practices and challenges of map / GIS education of “Chiri-sogo (Geography)” as a high school subject. With the compulsory course of " Chiri-sogo (Geography)", all high school students are learning maps and GIS, and a system to improve map literacy is being established. As social expectations rise, it is necessary to continue discussions on the evaluation of map / GIS education in class and the training of teachers while practicing. Competency is becoming more important in the new course of study, and a shift from "what you know" to "what you can do" is about to be achieved.

It has been criticized that regional geography learning is centered on "memorization". Of course, memorizing basic knowledge is important, but it is not the essence of regional geography learning. Modern society is undergoing drastic change. Therefore, it is important to regional geography learning, which aims to elucidate the region by collecting and analyzing geographic information. Utilization of ICT is indispensable for such learning.

The geographical perspective is the viewpoint of seeing the phenomenon as geography, and provides the viewpoint necessary for learning the geography. Specifically, the five viewpoints of location / distribution, location, interdependence between humans and the natural environment, spatial interdependence, and region will be geographical perspective . This geographical perspective is a common viewpoint in both systematic learning and regional geography learning in geography. It is easy to think that regional geography learning is to acquire geographical knowledge of Japan and the world, but geographical perspective is also the basic viewpoints in geography learning.

In theory, space-time accessibility measures are supposed to be guaging the degree of accessibility to spatial opportunities more appropriately and accurately than other spatial accessibility measures. However, in practice, there expected to be computational time issues in calculating the measures. Considering the difficulties, this study develops an efficient method for calculating space-time accessibility measures based on the preprocessing of transport networks. It then demonstrates, from a case study, how the proposed method can be computationally implemented in the opensource programming language Python.

Major disasters have been occurring in the Asia and Pacific region every year. In the time of disaster, accurate decipherment of the disaster affected area is important for emergency relief and response activities. Therefore, it is important to contribute to the field of disaster management using space technology, such as providing satellite images and analysis maps.
Since 2007, a lot of satellite images and analysis maps have been provided through the activities of Sentinel Asia. In this activity, research institutions and DRR organizations in each country have been strongly cooperating with each other to provide continuous support to the affected areas.

Geography is a subject that has both scientific and social elements. In science, students are required to follow the process of scientific inquiry through observation and experimentation in order to clarify natural things and phenomena. Geography does not necessarily emphasize the same process of observation and experimentation to identify regional characteristics as science does. Observation and experimentation in geography means observing landscapes in fieldwork and studying their distribution on maps. To conduct these learning activities, the use of ICT is effective. Therefore, I'd like to present my teaching practice utilizing ICT through the study of "What the reagion should be".

Fort Chan Hai, which is the subject of this study, is one of the World Heritage Sites of Hue in Thua Thien-Hue Province, central Vietnam, and only those forts located closest to the coast are registered. However, a total of 17 forts are listed on the BAVH, and in order to properly evaluate this fort as a World Heritage Site, it is necessary to understand the historical background in which the fort group was formed and to grasp its overall picture. This study reconstructs the locations of 17 forts from the Nguyen Dynasty period and clarifies the process of their transition from the Nguyen Dynasty to the present.

Matsumoto is famous for its good quality of groundwater and springs because it is located in a basin surrounded by snow mountains. The castle town of Matsumoto used to have many old wells in ancient times and many of them have disappeared and been abandoned due to urbanization and water supply in the fast economic growth period of Japan since the late 1950s. Around 1990, the government of Matsumoto started to reconstruct the culture of traditional wells in the castle town. This study aims to clarify the current functions and management of public wells and springs in the castle town of Matsumoto and analyze their relationships with land use in the neighborhood. Focusing on the awareness and actions of both the local governments and residents, the impacts on the local communities, especially those brought by residents' participation, will be clarified. Twenty-three public wells and springs freely available for anyone to use, were chosen as the target wells in this study. Interviews with the local governments who did the improvement work and neighborhood associations who are doing the daily management of the 23 target wells, were conducted during 25-29 October 2021 and 23-27 May 2022.
Since the local governments finished various well-drilling projects and installed pumps and faucets for the wells around the 1990s and 2000s, public wells and springs in Matsumoto have not only been popular for daily drinking, but also have become a landmark in Matsumoto and have attracted tourists or residents to take a seat and have a rest around them. In addition, parks or tea houses near those public wells have become places of communication for residents. Local neighborhood associations enthusiastically participate in the clean-up activities of public wells. The willingness to clean up the wells is higher in the neighborhood where older people live than those in shopping and dining districts full of employees coming from other towns or cities. It seems that local residents' attachment to the local community influences their willingness to clean up the wells. Groundwater was not considered public in Japan in old times, but in this study we can see that the awareness of groundwater as a public property has grown through the opening-up of private wells to the public and voluntary clean-up activities born from attachment to local communities. However, it is expected that there will be a labor shortage due to the aging of the castle town, and that it is difficult to continue the endogenous activities of the residents.

A field survey at Minami-Izu, Shizuoka, was conducted in order to consider the relationship between the migrations for business and local residents from a comprehensive perspective. The results showed that 6% of the migrants and 3% of the direct protesters were directly involved in the troubles . However, 51% of local residents composed of elderly people who spent most of their daytime in the village were the coordinators to avoid troubles and to make business successful. They basically supported migrants to ensure the stability of their village lives through directly and indirectly collecting information. Daily bargaining for shared consensus was important.

Nitrate ion in river water is an indicator of the effects of anthropogenic activities. There are various factors that contribute to the presence of nitrate ion in river water, and clarifying the distribution of nitrate ion concentration and considering the reasons for it is useful in understanding the characteristics of the river basin. In the Asakawa River in the Tama River system, water pollution caused by domestic wastewater after the period of rapid economic growth has been considered a problem, and various studies have been conducted. Although the inflow of domestic wastewater has been greatly reduced due to the construction of a sewerage system, a large amount of nitrate ions still exist in the river water, and it is necessary to clarify the cause of this problem. The purpose of this study is to clarify the distribution of nitrate ions in the entire Asakawa River basin and to elucidate the causes of nitrate ions. It was suggested that sewage treatment plant effluent, septic tank effluent, agricultural land, and nitrogen saturation of forest ecosystems affect the spatial distribution of nitrate ions in the watershed. In the future, it will be necessary to examine seasonal changes and other factors in order to elucidate more detailed factors.

Practicing geographic lessons with landscape photographs is a means of inspiring fresh surprises and curiosity. It also raises interest in geographic considerations, both globally and locally. I have practiced them, but I thought that watching movies can help learners image easily and feel more realistic, so the lessons are developed using images taken by drones locally. We consider drones a useful tool in geography lessons. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to observe the effectiveness and utilization of drones in the lesson practice.
