JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe drug activity of rifampicin (RFP) and capreomycin (CPM), viomycin (VM) or kanamycin (KM) against Mycobacterium tuberculosis was examined in vitro. Thirty strains tested were isolated from the in-patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. KIRCHNER agar containing 10% albumin was used for the examination.
(1) The strains resistant to 100 mcg/ml of CPM, VM or KM were susceptible to RFP, and the strains resistant to 100 mcg/ml of RFP were also susceptible to CPM, VM or KM.
(2) Therefore, in the strains isolated from the patients, no cross resistance between RFP and CPM, VM or KM was observed.View full abstractDownload PDF (479K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSSeveral derivatives of spiramycin (I)-hydrogenation products and esters-were prepared to improve this antibiotic. Antibacterial activity and acid stability of the derivatives were tested. New acyl derivatives, which were prepared by acid anhydride and pyridine at relatively high temperature, showed different n. m. r. spectrum from that of spiramycin. They are designated tentatively as acyl derivatives of isospiramycin which showed remarkable resistance against acid hydrolysis.View full abstractDownload PDF (684K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSSeveral derivatives of spiramycin were súbjected to in vivo tests, among which monoacetylisospiramycin exhibited a very excellent effect on mice infected by Staphylococcus aureus Newmann. Monoacetylisospiramycin was lower approximately by half than spiramycin in acute toxicity by intravenous injection. The concentration of the former in the blood and tissues was considerably higher than that of the latter and remained longer.
